JRN: Design and Editorials

We spent some time looking at our sample pages from the last few days and taking some notes regarding things to remember and memorize design-wise, as well as reading the work of our fellow journalists. We also filled out a style “quiz” for the correct format for our pages.

Tomorrow, we are going to look into investigating editorial and opinion writing as well as the difference between the two. Here’s a look inside editorials along with an outline and rubric to consider. You may choose to write an editorial in a team of no more than 3, or to individually write an opinion piece. Here’s a link to NY Times information regarding editorials and many topic ideas for both editorial and opinion pieces. There’s also a student editorial contestYour job on Wednesday is to read through this information and sample articles/prompts and take notes (1-2 pages at least). You then are to select whether or not you would like to write an editorial as a team or an individual opinion piece.
