Honors 11: Grapes Theme Work cont. + Intro to Poetry Explication

We finished up and presented our small group theme posters. Good job. I hit you with a lot of follow up questions, so well done. Some groups still need to present on Wednesday.

I also gave you one of two poems to annotate/explicate using these poetry explication methods, so you can be ready to discuss your findings/connections on Wednesday with other people who will have the same poem. One was “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the other has a very long title that begins with “Teaching Grapes of Wrath to Middle Class High School Students…” The goal is that you try to make connections to our novel and then gain a new way of seeing the book. You will then teach the other side of the class about your poem. We will deal with that next week.

Also, the Shockley piece in the previous post concerning Christian symbolism is to be read and annotated as needed for next Thursday (9/17).
