Honors 11: Fences Discussion + August Wilson

We first began the hour by watching this 1988 PBS interview with August Wilson (feel free to finish watching). We discussed its connection to the play and the ways in which it was interesting. We then watched a clip of the Cosby show because Wilson finds it a problematic representation of Black America. Here’s an interesting article as well regarding Wilson’s requirement for black directors for major productions of his works should you be interested.

We started then going over our Act I (II as well) discussion guide. We will need to finish tomorrow before delving into Amiri Baraka (LeRoi Jones). Please do a little research on him for tomorrow. He’s highly controversial but interesting.
