Honors 11: Survey Results and Intro to Du Bois

We discussed the results of the survey regarding our unit that we took in class today. As this took the majority of the hour, we had to push off our McIntosh discussion until Monday. We will discuss Fortgang, McIntosh and W.E.B. Du Bois‘ piece from 1897, “The Strivings of the Negro People” together (annotate Du Bois in depth). You will likely have a response assignment as well as receive points for the discussion that encompasses all three, so make sure you have read for Monday.

First hour started watching Bryan Stevenson’s TED Talk concerning injustice in the justice system and the concept of identity (only got about 5 mins. in), but 1st hour will need to finish Monday and 2nd hour has not yet watched it.

Here’s the reading by Ta-Nehisi Coates for next Wednesday titled “The Case for Reparations”. WARNING: It is long. Get started early.
