Honors 11: Satire Unit Introduction

We began the day by taking some notes on the elements of satire as well as the historical influences that help us understand how satire can be classified. We then read a sample Onion piece and answered some questions concerning the issues the article addressed, the message itself and its effectiveness. After, we watched some sample videos from the Onion as well as a satiric critique of burlesque/insult comedy from Key and Peele.

I then introduced Anglo-Irish satirist Jonathan Swift to you, and your job is to read and annotate this satiric piece from 1729, titled “A Modest Proposal.”

Here’s the unit calendar.

Remember, your 1-page response paper is due Thursday morning by 7:40 a.m. to turnitin.com.
