Honors 11: Institutions of Power and Christian Symbolism in Grapes

We finished (or in second hour’s case, began) our conversation about certain institutions of power and how they come to wield power over our lives and that of our characters in Steinbeck’s novel. We then transitioned into a discussion about Shockley’s article titled, “Christian Symbolism in the Grapes of Wrath“, concerning his validity of evidence, strength of argument, and essay structure. For homework, it is your job to read Eric Carlson’s “Rebuttal” to the Shockley piece. You do not have an accompanying response/summary. Simply read and annotate as needed. Be ready to debate tomorrow.

We will be wrapping up Grapes by Thursday.
