Honors 11: Poster Share and Poetry

We began today sharing our group poster theme work with the class. Solid explanations and analysis. Good job!

We then broke up into two teams to dissect and analyze two very different “poems” (one’s technically a hymn). One group was given the Howe 1861 “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the other was given a 1983 poem with a really long title. 🙂 We worked to answer general questions we should ask ourselves when working to analyze poetry and understand the intended effects/audience/etc and what it’s trying to accomplish while simultaneously working to make connections to our novel. Phew! We then transitioned into an impromptu teach the class assignment with the poems. We will continue on Monday.

The Shockley piece will be assigned Monday for Tuesday (it is attached in the previous post). Directions for the article are here.
